Here is a self-hosted backup of all posts on the Astercontrol Tumblr blog. Any search function or attempt at organizing them is... currently under construction.

(Warning: This account sometimes posts on sexual topics. Viewer discretion is advised-- someone's gotta be discreet, and it's not gonna be me.)
Anyway.
(These backups) are generated from Tumblr's built-in backup function, so there are some problems. Even though it downloads both text and embedded images for me, this function doesn't preserve the links between them.
So, if a post has images embedded, the images you see are still hotlinks to Tumblr's own versions of them, in their servers.
And if, for any reason, those copies no longer exist at that address, then you won't see the images.
I am trying to fix that, but there are a LOT of posts, and I haven't yet found a good way to bulk-edit or automate that fix... so it's gonna take a while.
In the meantime, if you want to see MY hosted version of an image, and I haven't yet fixed the link on the post...
Follow These Instructions.
- Go to the post. (For example, this one)
- Go to the URL field in your browser (in this example, https://astercontrol.com/tumblr/posts/html/720155868544516096.html)
- Copy the number in that field (in this example, 720155868544516096)
- Paste it into the following URL, replacing 000000000000000000:
https://astercontrol.com/tumblr/media/000000000000000000_0.jpg
(in this example, edit the URL to https://astercontrol.com/tumblr/media/720155868544516096_0.jpg)
- Then go to the URL, and it should take you to my own hosted version of the image.
- If that doesn't work, the image might have a different extension. Try replacing "jpg" with "png" or "gif."
- If the post has multiple embedded images, change the number after the underscore to indicate which one you want to see. (For example, for the post at https://astercontrol.com/tumblr/posts/html/725925324347572224.html, go to https://astercontrol.com/tumblr/media/725925324347572224_0.png to see the first image, and https://astercontrol.com/tumblr/media/725925324347572224_1.png to see the second image).
- Some images also might not have the underscore and number at all. So try that if you have to. (For example the post at https://astercontrol.com/tumblr/posts/html/720223864144183296.html, the image link is just https://astercontrol.com/tumblr/media/720223864144183296.jpg.)
Sorry it's so much work for you right now. Tumblr doesn't make things easy.
(Part of why I'm trying to focus on this personal site as a backup.)
