ALTI was browsing Castor’s wiki page for reasons and happened upon a tidbit that made me do a double, then a triple, then a quadruple take:
“Unconfirmed conflicting reports describe his origin as a ‘low-priority actuarial algorithm illegally co-opted identity of the obsolete protocol. More investigation required for verification.’”
And idk about everyone else but I’m reading this as “He was a completely different program that took on the identity of Zuse/Castor” and I’m living for that interpretation. Pours gallons of fuel on the question of whether or not a program could gain an entirely new identity with the right amount of time and resources (i.e. a misplaced disk that still harbors a different program’s memory and data)

Now… Okay… have no reason to believe “actuarial program” in Castor’s backstory necessarily means Ram. There are probably lots of actuarial programs, even if Ram’s the only one canonically named as such
But I find myself FASCINATED by the idea of …what sort of events would lead to Ram becoming Castor.
Imagine him rerezzed to find Yori gone, Tron corrupted, Flynn in hiding while a tyrant with his face rules the world
No friends left
Unsure of his purpose in life
Still super gay
Still devoted to helping people and making them feel good
But not sure anymore if the politics at the top even matter, if one leader’s any better than another
If there’s any point in looking out for anyone except himself and his club patrons
