there’s so many allusions to ancient Greece in TRON 1982 and I love it, which makes Legacy hit even harder as a tragedy because… what is a more devastating Greek tragedy than… getting replaced by Rome
while we are on the topic of Ancient Greece
I very much headcanon that Tron feels the following emotions
Agápe for Alan
Éros for Yori
Philia for Ramwith the only difference being that, in the Program world, it is entirely expected that one can express all these feelings through circuit-porn
Y'know, I have a headcanon as far as that universe that is very much inspired by Hellenic legends. (My sister follows that Pantheon)
The story of Castor and Pollux. Same mother (Leda) but due to Zeus shenanigans, Castor’s father was the mortal king of Sparta and Pollux’s was Zeus. But since Zeus was an absentee dad, Pollux really didn’t care about that. He and his brother Castor became great heroes and protectors of Sparta.
Until they were killed. Pollux found himself up on Olympus, being feted and given every pleasure and privilege of a demigod hero. But…hey, where was his brother?
Oh. Mortal underworld.
And to Pollux, this would not do. He marched down there, found his brother, and refused to budge. Castor told him to go and enjoy godhood. The other gods tried to convince Pollux to leave. Pollux wasn’t gonna budge. Either his brother came with or he’d stay in the underworld so his brother wouldn’t be alone. But this posed a problem since demigods didn’t belong in that neighborhood.
After much debate, a compromise was reached and they became the constellation Gemini. Half the year with the Gods, half the year in the best neighborhood of the underworld.
And given the “Legends canon” of Tron 2.0? Hell yes Tron has a brother who would march to the underworld and refuse to leave until their mutual father figured out a workaround.
Tron and Jet - the digital Dioscuri.
… Fascinating!!!!
(yay for other viewpoints on the constellation-related myths!! because sometimes MY brain cannot see beyond puns)
(took me a while to notice how much the Aries ♈ symbol resembles the Sark symbol because I was SOOOOO stuck on “Aries=Ram” lol)
(and if I had been asked for a headcanon related to Gemini I would have just gone straight for the character literally named Castor and from there tried to figure out how his Zuse identity was somehow also his dad)
