there’s so many allusions to ancient Greece in TRON 1982 and I love it, which makes Legacy hit even harder as a tragedy because… what is a more devastating Greek tragedy than… getting replaced by Rome

while we are on the topic of Ancient Greece

I very much headcanon that Tron feels the following emotions

Agápe for Alan
Éros for Yori
Philia for Ram

with the only difference being that, in the Program world, it is entirely expected that one can express all these feelings through circuit-porn

Y'know, I have a headcanon as far as that universe that is very much inspired by Hellenic legends. (My sister follows that Pantheon)

The story of Castor and Pollux. Same mother (Leda) but due to Zeus shenanigans, Castor’s father was the mortal king of Sparta and Pollux’s was Zeus. But since Zeus was an absentee dad, Pollux really didn’t care about that. He and his brother Castor became great heroes and protectors of Sparta.

Until they were killed. Pollux found himself up on Olympus, being feted and given every pleasure and privilege of a demigod hero. But…hey, where was his brother?

Oh. Mortal underworld.

And to Pollux, this would not do. He marched down there, found his brother, and refused to budge. Castor told him to go and enjoy godhood. The other gods tried to convince Pollux to leave. Pollux wasn’t gonna budge. Either his brother came with or he’d stay in the underworld so his brother wouldn’t be alone. But this posed a problem since demigods didn’t belong in that neighborhood.

After much debate, a compromise was reached and they became the constellation Gemini. Half the year with the Gods, half the year in the best neighborhood of the underworld.

And given the “Legends canon” of Tron 2.0? Hell yes Tron has a brother who would march to the underworld and refuse to leave until their mutual father figured out a workaround.

Tron and Jet - the digital Dioscuri.

… Fascinating!!!!

(yay for other viewpoints on the constellation-related myths!! because sometimes MY brain cannot see beyond puns)

(took me a while to notice how much the Aries ♈ symbol resembles the Sark symbol because I was SOOOOO stuck on “Aries=Ram” lol)

(and if I had been asked for a headcanon related to Gemini I would have just gone straight for the character literally named Castor and from there tried to figure out how his Zuse identity was somehow also his dad)

Yeah, Tron 2.0 is an obscure little side alley with small expanded universe that was considered Legends canon when Legacy got green lit (kinda like Star Wars). But like Star Wars Legends, a lot of elements got sneaked in the back door. Jethro “Jet” Bradley is Alan and Lora’s kid and…oh, boy. I *swear* his character concept got split between Sam and Beck. Backstory went to Sam, but looks and personality? Look, if Beck HAS a non-Flynn User, Jet would be top of the list for suspects.

Now, the Expanded Universe for 2.0 (the Ghost in the Machine comic) depicted that Jet was really not comfortable with the whole demigod…er, User thing. Flynn was all rah rah about making a world in his own image. Jet ended up cowering in the arcade with a moral and mental health crisis because who the hell was he to play god over these people who he helped protect from greedy, stupid other humans?

And there’s this one panel where Blue Jet (long story) puts his foot down and says that if protecting the Programs means he dies, alone and forgotten, he’s fine with that. It was that moment where it hit me - this was Tron and Yori’s little brother. A demigod brother who fights for the Programs like they fought for Users.

As for that loon Castor? Well, it would have helped if he boned up on his Greek and realized that Pollux was Zeus’s son, and Castor the mortal twin, no?

Hahaha maybe it made him even MORE screwed-up to have an alternate personality that was actually just his stepdad or half-dad or whatever the heck Zeus was, lol.

All this game lore is FASCINATING and I need to read up on it because I’m new to Tron and have watched both movies and Uprising but not being a gamer is seriously hampering me as a fan… so thanks for all the intriguing tidbits!!
