anyone curious about how my writing style works, here’s one tidbit
I have an “Unkilled Darlings” folder
Passages that I love, but either
1. I had to remove from a piece of writing they didn’t fit in, or
2. they sprang fully formed from my head with no context, and need to wait until I start a piece of writing worthy of them
My Kirk/Spock story “Savage-Wild” has two parts that began life in the Unkilled Darlings folder (the part about Vulcan euphemisms and the part about hardness-related analogy)
Here’s another that doesn’t have a home yet:
“It’s like shooting fish in a barrel. Either you hit the one you’re aiming at– or you’ll take out their whole system and they’ll all suffer a slow and agonizing death as everything that sustains them drains out through the holes you made.”
