Ok so

You know how I love to imagine a world where the original copies of all the programs from Tron 1982 get to go on happily doing their jobs and living their lives within the Encom system

(whatever may be going on in that OTHER Grid)…

I like to imagine Tron and Yori and (rerezzed) Ram are all so good at their jobs that they’re kept online permanently as Encom programs, upgrading as needed to keep up with the times, and that this goes on pretty much forever.

(because I want all my sweethearts to live happily ever after, okay!)

But… today I just realized the further implication of that…

The one where… if the events of Legacy still happen…

Sam Flynn is breaking through Encom security on a yearly basis to play pranks

Meaning:

Either he’s regularly defeating Original Tron at the system security game…

…Or… Tron, somehow, is recognizing him and deliberately helping.

…I’m not yet sure what to do with this thought

But it is making me FEEL things

I want to say he would willingly let Sam in, the opening portion of legacy implies corporate mess — maybe not quite the level of the MCP but the insane price tag on the OS12 (and other versions) etc imply a not so “free flowing information” system from the end of the first film.

So he’s sort of sticking it to the universal equivalent of the board

However the idea of a punk ass 27 year old routinely kicking his Ass is just too funny. He’s the best security program™️ except when it comes to this one guy

Yeah I have the same feeling– Tron recognizes the feel of “Not a Free System anymore”… and this brings back very bad memories… but the feel of “There’s a Flynn trying to help!” is also quite a strong memory, a good one that gets him enthusiastic about letting that happen

And yeah it would also be super funny if he was just weak to Sam specifically

…Maybe both?

Maybe he doesn’t realize, consciously, why this one hacker kicks his ass so easily

Until he runs a diagnostic of his most subconscious subroutines and realizes… yep I knew, deep down, and was LETTING him win
