Please. Help.
The girl I’m dating and I both think that we sleep on the left side of the bed. I’m coming to terms with the fact that she may be a psychopath and I don’t know what’s real anymore.
Which option has the sides of the bed correctly labelled?
#1
#2
Neither #1 nor #2 but a secret third thing
See Results“left” and “right” are both relative terms determined relative to a person. The correct answers are port and starboard.
the headboard is the stern
Yeah this one seems pretty straightforward. I’m sure there’s some exceptions, but every depiction I can think of, including IRL race car beds, agrees.
i spent too long on this and regret nothing
- head of the bed: the stern. going towards it is aft.
- headboard: transom, arguably
- pillow area: captain’s quarters, cockpit, or poopdeck, depending on how much fun you wanted to have
- middle of the bed: amidships
- leg area of the bed: fo'castle, foredeck, or helm.
- foot of the bed: the bow. going towards it is forward.
- footboard: the stem.
- under the bed: belowdecks, the hold.
- crusty floor area: the bilge.
- righhand when facing forward: starboard
- the floor off the right side: starboard bow forward from amidships, starboard quarter aft of amidships
- lefthand when facing forward: port
- the the floor off the left side: port bow foward, port quarter aft
- sideboards of the bed: gunwales
please note
not all terminology carries over
the head of the bed is NOT for use as a toilet
