the news of “AI Art has been ruled uncopyrightable” feels mostly awesome to me but also sets off a slight uneasiness as to how they’re defining “AI” and how/if that definition may get edited as time goes on
especially in the light of other news like “photos taken of the moon on smartphones get AI-enhanced without user’s permission” and the question of whether I even have access to any non-AI means of making photos of my own handmade (hopefully copyrightable) art
That said…
as someone who is not a rich capitalist & therefore will never get more benefit from copyright than I get from “people simply being aware of my art”…
I expect I could sell my own original work with about equal success if it got forced into the public domain… and so I do not in fact care very much about being able to copyright it …except as a means toward ensuring that someone richer and eviler doesn’t steal it and claim they have copyright on it.
so… i dunno.
guess it all sucks.
