oh dang

soooooo true

was it just a week or so ago that were talking about the Flynn and Clu scene from the beginning of the 1982 movie, and the different ways it’s portrayed in the movie & novelization

where in the novel, they aren’t talking back & forth like in the movie, Clu is just doing his job, and thinking about how he hopes he can get to the I/O Tower to report back to Flynn later

which makes sense, ‘cause that’s supposed to be the only way programs CAN have detailed communication with their Users

and the best explanation we could find was “Flynn totally talks to his programs, even if they don’t talk back. AND, with the mirroring effect of the Program/User connection, OF COURSE his program would be doing the same thing, at the same time. Talking to the User even without getting a reply– while also sitting at a desk and drinking from a mug, like Flynn’s adorable little mini-me.”

and of COURSE Clu’s fantasy about talking with his User involves him being a good obedient little program, calling him “Sir” and everything, of COURSE it does

poor baby

(aaaand we definitely saw the seeds there, of what’ll happen when a twisted upgraded version of this poor sweetheart is rerezzed, with similar drive to be a good boy and follow his commands, BUT with the command being one that’ll get EVERYONE killed, not just him)
