Just so everyone’s aware and for people who might want to do something, Friday (September 22) is the day Flynn, Alan and Lora broke into Encom.
See, I got the impression that September 22 was the date that Dillinger originally stole Flynn’s games. That’s how I interpret the printout at the end of the film:
This would be an equally important event in my opinion, since Dillinger’s theft was basically what set the events of the film in motion, and by extension everything that came after (the the theft leads to the break-in, which leads to Flynn becoming aware of the digital world, which leads to him creating his own Grid, etc.). I propose to call it the “Day of Dillinger’s Betrayal”. Or maybe “Dillinger Dickery Day”.
Okay, @stuckasmain pointed out that the date also shows up on Alan’s computer when he gets his access suspended. I missed that.
Could it be a production misstake, that the same date was used in the suspension message and the annexation printout? Would the in-universe explanation be that the break-in happened by coincidence on the anniversary of Dillinger’s theft?
Or maybe it’s because Flynn intentionally decided to try his Clu-hacking on that day, hoping to get the evidence of Dillinger’s betrayal on the day it originally happened? Which then lead to the MCP suspending access, which then leads to…
