Thinking about how Tron technically changed in position
He’s a security monitor “monitors all interaction between our system and others finds anything that isn’t scheduled and shuts it down” he has a pretty big and important job. Especially considering the Encom corporate encompasses at LEAST a thousand smaller systems. He has a very specific role
On the Grid his job is beach. “What is my purpose” “you do security”
Flynn basically has him do anything that can marginally pass as work that keeps the system stable and workable. He gets grid bugs, im not knowledgeable in computers but I’m pretty sure bug fixes would be another programs jurisdiction. He finally gets a team and “I’m going to retire forever now ok goodbye*explodes* (I know little about uprising past this—-) no wonder he wanted a successor so badly this man is doing literally everything. 😭
I now have a mental image of Tron sitting on a deck chair at the edge of the Sea of Simulation, absolutely FUMING at the idea of running out of work but also about to blow a gasket at how much work he has to do, thank you so much for this!
Man’s probably a little bit thankful for the Occupation’s existence, if only because it’s MCP-and-Reds 2.0 and at last! Something he’s actually designed to fight!
…..and then Dyson happens, and he almost gets blown up in a vaguely-successful escape, and he can’t do anything. Forced vacation, in the middle of a crisis. Tron hates this so much. He can’t even vent his frustrations on Gridbug nests because he’s now broken enough to be an easy meal.
Something something partial recovery, but he still can’t work because he’s both hurt and apparently the most wanted Program on Grid and he’s pissy. And his first pick of successor glitches on him.
Cue extremely unhappy Monitor who doesn’t know if he’s more distraught about losing a friend(?) to a virus or the fact that he didn’t sense the virus in the first place. Bury the lot, that’s all he can do. And the bugs are getting worse again.
He needs a successor who knows how to do bug fixes as well as fight the damn bugs, or at least free him up to fight the damn bugs and other assorted threats because damnit he’s security not a mechanic- oh wait, there’s an idea, he finds a mechanic who’s already extremely fighty by mechanic standards and tries to yoink him (the only things in his way are Able, and the mechanic being both a beta and Too Damn Likeable).
….he forgot how annoying betas can be, but this one at least has his processes aimed in the right direction. And has a decent punch, with a bit of training, although the refusal to derez is going to get the kid in trouble one cycle and Tron’s… not sure if he’ll be quick enough every time.
But… he guesses training another monitor, even one that’s cross-coded, is work enough to stop him from wanting to scream. It’s enough of the right kind of work to not make his circuits itch.
Hopefully.
….Alan_One help him, he needs a drink and a miracle.
He just sends Alan a email written like a letter from a kid DESPERATE to have their parents pick them up from summer camp.
“There’s nothing to do here and somehow I’m doing all of it. I was not made for this!! Alan_one please I’ll do all of my tasks and I’ll drink all of my energy if you just pick me up”
