@fights4users replied to your post “//Can we just talk a moment about how Tron in the…”:

This is probably a really old post but it’s giving me feelings-
Grid Tron thinking he’s the original, angsting after the “original run time” and what he left behind, worrying and missing Yori, Alan etc …
Only he’s not missed. He’s still there. He never left and was also never there

//RIGHT???? us Tron fans are so good at adding extra angst

Omg yes!!

I’ve been chatting with another fan and we’re getting increasingly disturbed about several aspects of this. In particular, WTF was Kevin thinking and how did he justify any of it to anyone??

Like

1. Did he tell Tron that he was a copy and that his original was back home all happy with his friends and loved ones and User? Because Grid Tron can’t have been happy about that! And neither would original Tron, I’m pretty sure!

2. Did he tell Alan? Did he get Alan’s okay to copy his program like that? Because even if Alan didn’t know about the programs being alive, I think he’d have Serious Reservations about giving Kevin permission to MAKE A COPY OF ENCOM’S SECURITY SOFTWARE AND REMOVE IT FROM THE SECURE SYSTEM WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE WHAT HE WAS GONNA DO WITH IT OR WHO ELSE MIGHT GET ACCESS TO IT

3. If Alan was totally in the dark about this, did either of the Trons know that it was done without his permission? If they knew, how the hell would they have reacted?

4. Did he tell Lora? What would Lora have said if she knew what he was doing with her laser? And what are Yori’s thoughts on all this??

5. Ditto for Roy and Ram. I know that by the time of Legacy, Roy’s not an Encom employee anymore. What does this mean for his program? Also, of course, considering the fact that Ram wasn’t meant to be a program in the Encom system. If Kevin recovers him, will be have to leave Encom? Is his insurance company missing him? OR DO THEY STILL HAVE HIM??…Did the MCP leave original copies of the programs it stole?? Did Kevin and MCP commit the same sin against program well-being?

(On a related note, i’ve brought up the idea of Tron being a copy on a Reddit thread, and someone replied that the original couldn’t have stayed active at ENCOM very long because by the time of Legacy Encom’s system was “running on Ubuntu” and there’s no way the Tron program could become compatible with that, and the Tron on the new Grid basically had to be “rewritten from scratch” to function in that upgraded system.

To which my response is “if Tron could be rewritten for the Grid then he could be rewritten for Encom’s new system, if Alan had a good enough reason to… which I now wanna explore”…

…and honestly, the rewrite (or whatever extensive changes would be needed to get him compatible with a vastly upgraded new Encom system) is also an interesting idea to explore!

because what would such a huge change do to the identity of his character? What would happen to his memories, his character traits, the way he processes his knowledge and skills? And most importantly, how would these changes differ depending on whether it was Alan or Kevin upgrading him?)
