Judaism: “Magic is technically not allowed unless you have a PHD in Judaism. Even then it’s kinda its own thing. Listen, it’s complicated, it starts with neoplatonic-”
Christianity: “Magic is definitely not allowed but it’s existence is a little…devious…risque… Christ can command demonic forces you know…c'mon, let’s be a bit bad today. If we aren’t, Christ died for nothing.”
Islam: “Our prohibitions against magic are at constant odds with our deep respect for a well constructed Quranic loophole.” [Brushes 400th mystic sect under the rug]
Actually, Augustine says that demons are responsible for what appears as magic, and while Christ can command them, thinking YOU can control the demons through your faith in Christ is folly.
Technically, the official Catholic opinion on magic is “Magic is both real and possible for anyone to learn, but it’s powered by demons and you’d have to be an idiot to think you’re ever the one in control.”
is there any meaningful difference between “practicing magic” and “praying and getting your prayers answered” though
