what little i have caught of hlvrai discourse made me just a bit apprehensive about the sort of things that happen to existing fandom when a new and different work in the same property is suddenly released and gets a new cohort of fans
but then I was like
ok, i survived this with star trek SO many times
and also
tron ares is gonna be terrible and there will be NO new fans because of it so we’re safe
I’m really worried about Tron Ares (I have never seen Jared Leto be even passable in anything, let alone good) and the kind of fans it will attract… but at the same time, I’m also hopeful?
I got into Star Trek through Enterprise (Which I’ve since learned is almost universally disliked? It still has a very soft spot in my heart though) And it was a genuine gateway into appreciating the other Star Trek series, from Next Gen and Voyager to Original Trek.I’m sure most people who watch Tron Ares will not feel called to engage with the existing Tron media and fandom, just due to the kind of movie Ares appears to be shaping up to be. But I’m almost certain that some will. And this fandom can use the new blood.
Good thoughts. Actually, come to think of it, even when the court of public opinion’s entire verdict on a sequel or remake is “it sucks,” there are still usually dialogues branching off from that about how the original material is better and you should watch it….
So yeah, we could get a few good fans out of this.
