in the USA, the typical go-to way that you show characters being in a Romantic Relationship is a kiss on the lips

In some other cultures this is apparently not as common

a while back, I watched a Chinese-made show in which there was a rather large amount of romance but not one single kiss

with the probably very unintended result that, just going by body language, there was NO difference between the main male-female romantic relationship and the main guys-being-bros friendship

(people’s feelings for each other seemed to be clarified entirely in words, which I hope didn’t lose too much more in translation than the visual themes did…)
