Been thinking about tron names for a while now. In the original, it seems that programs names are their file names, with mcp, tron, and clu all referred to by name outside the grid. That being said, what was ram? Did some dumbass at encom try downloading ram off the internet?? That aside in tron uprising and legacy we get more human names like beck, bodhi, mara, Paige so I would like to propose that flynn, knowing that the programs are sentient, started renaming them with people names

Hahaaa yeah I just posted a rant about Ram’s name too, lol

Like what’s up with him?? (currently guessing the most likely is it’s an abbreviation for something else like “Roy’s Actuarial Module” or “Risk Assessment Mathematics”) (but I would have to watch the Legacy short again to see if there’s any definite evidence that anyone besides Flynn knew him as “Ram” out in the User world; otherwise it could be a nickname other programs gave him)

Dumont… well I’ve got headcanons about what else gets named after him later, but as for where his name came from originally I got no idea. Maybe the TV network, but I think it’s an actual French surname so it’s probably the name of other stuff too.

Sounds like it means “from the mountain.” (If we’re gonna get deep into all the Ancient Greek archetypes in that movie, and since he’s basically an intermediary for the Gods, it could be a reference to Mount Olympus, but I know my pattern recognition program brain is always a little over the top with the connections)

(for what it’s worth, Roy’s last name Kleinberg would be German for “small mountain” but I really doubt that means anything, my brain’s just a bulletin board covered in newspaper clippings and string at this point)
