because, though she seems multi-talented, her only real skill is being really really good at seeing connections between different things and applying ideas from one to another

many sub-reasons within that reason, including:

asterisk in literature= footnote, to go off on a tangent

asterisk as visual representation: central point connects to others

although i am a human in the so-called real world and she is a sentient pattern recognition program in a computer, these reasons are exactly the same for both of us

(because she and her programmer are 100% self-inserts and their entire story is a personal exploration of my own self-image and self-love, as well as a vehicle for making a craptonne of puns)
