Every time I see an AITA post, I think of this article I read years and years ago about a couple in China who wanted to name their son @ (yes, the “at” symbol) and were not allowed to because it was not among the accepted characters for names (honestly there have gotta be SOME restrictions on that, in any language and country, if you don’t want Little Bobby Tables)
and they said their reason for choosing that name was because it can be pronounced like the Chinese words for “love him.” It was an expression of their love for their kid
and they did not specify why they wanted to spell it “@” instead of the actual Chinese characters for that phrase, or the romanized spelling, which (according to the article) would be “ai ta.”
anyway i think those parents would’ve done horrifying numbers on the AITA forum
