him = the red guard who saw Tron beat up all his coworkers and just decided he preferred his chances jumping into the Sea of Simulation instead of getting kicked into it by Tron

Oh god, I’m so happy to see a gif of that guy, he’s one of my favorites. Just that little wave he does before he jumps. “No, don’t bother with me, I’ll just go ahead and derezz myself, since it’s gonna happen anyway. Good game, Mr. Hero.”
I like to think that Tron’s thinking “damn, maybe I went a little overboard there. Am I really that scary?”

hahaaa yes, like he started to draw his disc and then his hand just goes slack, like… “what??”

and how the guy throws his weapon over first, then just jumps off… such a very “okay I quit, this is not what I signed up for” series of movements.

and come to think of it, since they’re still in the hangar (and Flynn already looks like he’s hanging on for his life) I’m pretty sure what’s underneath him is actually the ground, not the sea– totally gonna be derezzed there. But apparently that’s preferable to what he feared from Tron…?

almost makes me wonder if he fully expected to get rerezzed afterwards…

…which kinda makes me think of the theory some fans have about the Games in Legacy– that some programs may have been kept in a loop of getting derezzed into a sort of cut-and-paste buffer and re-used over and over (so that the population of the Grid wouldn’t keep shrinking, since Clu couldn’t create new programs).

And there are… hints that the Games under the MCP did this too… like the program Sark defeated in the lightcycle battle of the first scene, who then reappears in the scene where Flynn breaks out of the game grid?

…now I guess I wanna work BOTH of these little bit-part characters into a fic…
