I’ve previously written about my theory about how the Programs in Tron might be reflections of their User’s ideal selves. How the Users deep down wishes they could be, and might actually be if they could only admit it to themselves. So Tron is a buff, strong, defiant hero, because Alan wishes he was. Today, this lead me to an interesting idea:
Imagine, if you will, Flynn beginning to build his Grid in the 1980s, and “borrowing” software from other programmers at ENCOM to populate it with. During one visit to the Grid, he notices something strange about some of these borrowed Programs: They look humanoid, but for some reason they have animal heads, and tails. Getting back to the real world and doing a little research, he realizes that these particular Programs were all created by the same ENCOM employee.
So Flynn decides to swing by the programmer’s cubicle and have a few words with him, to perhaps get some answers. The cubicle looks neat and organized, nothing out of the ordinary… except, Flynn notices, a picture taped to the wall. It looks hand-drawn, and depicts a character from a Disney film.
“Oh hey, Robin Hood, that’s a great movie!” Flynn says.
The programmer flinches ever so slightly, before smiling. “Yeah. I like it a lot.”
“You drew that picture yourself?”
The programmer only nods, seeming a little nervous.
“Cool, man. I, uh… just wanted to say that I’m impressed by your software work. And it looks like you’re a pretty good artist too!”
“Th… thank you, Mr. Flynn.”
“Please, call me Kevin. Anyway, keep up the good work!”
And Flynn walks away, as the programmer lets out a sigh of relief. He can’t help feeling a little nervous still, though. Did he just imagine it, or was there something “knowing” in the smile Flynn gave him just now?
haaaaaa
yes
excellent
2 things:
reminds me of my fantasy of rewriting the Crom-gets-derezzed scene with Chrome instead of Crom, and a Robin-Hoodesque Firefox instead of Flynn
I wanna meet the freaky programmers whose ideal body shapes are the Data Pushers. those folks are on a whole other level
(checks time of my last post) 47 minutes ago. Nice. I draw FAST.
anyway
in case you can’t tell. I have drawn furry art before.
