Even weirder? it’s not an image link, or even a data: embed. It’s a canvas.

canvases are used for dynamically rendering things in the browser. like, that’s what powers the death generator.

But you can compare different Scarlet Lettered users, it always seems to render the same thing. Did they intend for it to be a blurred version of the original profile, but broke it and now it’s always the same?

I asked a fellow Tron fan what the hell the programs in the Tumblr backend are getting up to, and he replied “a no-holds-barred Caligula style orgy”

which is not that different from what we agreed the programs in AO3 are getting up to (really, we horny Tron fans do have a one-track mind)

but I am convinced the difference is that the System at AO3 is set up so that wild crazy sex is the default interface for how programs transmit information vital to doing their job

while at Tumblr the programs have not really even been given instructions for how to do their job, and are just making shit up as they go along (and hoping that orgies are part of it even though they’ve technically been told not to have orgies)

programs. they’re just like us.
