The area I’m moving into right now is a beautiful walkable city, with some of the most affordable apartments within a few blocks of groceries, post office, library, hardware store, many cafes and restaurants, you name it.
It’s also a place that, when I tell my white upper-middle-class suburban relatives I’m moving there, they say “omg are you sure you’ll be safe??”
By which I think they mean, “I drove through that area once, and I saw some people who did not look white or rich.”
There are real 15-minute cities. They’re just (pretty much by definition) not places populated exclusively by white rich people. And if that’s a deal-breaker, go live in a theme park– or seriously reevaluate your view of things.
