The area I’m moving into right now is a beautiful walkable city, with some of the most affordable apartments within a few blocks of groceries, post office, library, hardware store, many cafes and restaurants, you name it.
It’s also a place that, when I tell my white upper-middle-class suburban relatives I’m moving there, they say “omg are you sure you’ll be safe??”
By which I think they mean, “I drove through that area once, and I saw some people who did not look white or rich.”
There are real 15-minute cities. They’re just (pretty much by definition) not places populated exclusively by white rich people. And if that’s a deal-breaker, go live in a theme park– or seriously reevaluate your view of things.
I need to know where these places are.
Well, not to dox myself (I mean, I’m not trying to keep it secret that I’m moving back to Minnesota) ….but a lot of places in St Paul and eastern Minneapolis, for one thing.
And I’m not going say those places are totally safe… this is near where the George Floyd riots happened… but the reason they’re not totally safe is more cops than anything else.
I don’t have the money to live in “safe” places.
Also…..what does doxxing have to do with anything here?
Oh, just that I’m not going to post the exact location of where I’m planning to live, because putting my exact location on the internet would be like doxxing myself. But I feel reasonably safe answering that I’m in the Twin Cities; it’s a big area.
