I bullied people over this
See ResultsPoliticians and school admins seem to think that kids are always bullying each other over brands, and anon thinks they’re just deflecting from the real social reasons behind bullying, such as racism, homophobia, fatphobia, ableism, etc.
This is asking about clothing, accessories, gadgets & gizmos, etc.

There was at least one kid in my school who made fun of me for being too poor to buy specific branded things. And others who made fun of me for being poor in general.
Which was bizarre because my parents were probably some of the wealthiest in that school district? But they were also autistic as fk and had absolutely no interest in appearances. So I wore patched up sweatpants and nothing that matched, and certainly none of the fancy brands that anyone cared about.
Anyway I’m nearly 100% sure that every instance of teasing about my clothes and supposed poverty was really, beneath the surface, about me being weird and autistic.
The bigotry (racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, ableism, whatever) is always there, regardless of what the bullying is explicitly “for.”
