I’ve had a conversation with an old college friend a couple months ago and she told me where she lives now, it’s not permitted to have your children share a bedroom, which surprised me. And she also thought it was abusive to do so. So, yeah, poll time.

Should siblings be permitted to share a bedroom.

Siblings can share a bedroom.

While not ideal, siblings should share a bedroom when necessary.

Siblings can share a bedroom, but only if they’re the same gender.

Siblings can share a bedroom, but only until a certain age.

Siblings should never share a bedroom, but I wouldn’t call it abusive

Siblings sharing a bedroom is abusive.

Real answer for me is: anyone, at any time in life, being denied the right to privacy in their own room if they want it, is basically abusive… BUT so is virtually every aspect of being a child…. AND so is virtually every aspect of being anyone who lives in this country and isn’t ridiculously rich…. So since we’re all living under constant abuse by various inescapable systems at all times, the question of whether it’s abusive basically becomes irrelevant and is replaced with “eh, it’s tolerable if you gotta, and for godsakes don’t force families to do things they literally can’t afford, because that just makes everything a hundred times worse”
