I wanna really focus on something in tron legacy for a second; how often do they say the phrase “real world” to describe the user world outside the grid? cause I don’t think it’s that often if at all??? which I think is VERY VERY intentional. like what happens in the grid is real and both Sam and Kevin never treat it as anything but that, especially Kevin. someone double check me on that, but I genuinely really love that if that’s the case
Oooh good question!
I’ve thought about this in regard to 82 (not Legacy) … but I’m pretty sure in the 1982 movie the only character who ever referred to the outside world as “the real world” was the MCP. Who, despite an obvious disdain for Users and their world, still craved the power to influence it himself.
I can’t think of any examples from Legacy offhand… but I kinda feel that Clu, who was in that same position of “tyrant program who wants to conquer the User world too,” might have been the most likely to think of it as “the real world.”
