I wish this was true. Not only have I seen an escalator blocked off with an out of order sign, but the sign had the audacity to claim it was out of order for “scheduled maintenance”– like it was shameful to admit that the thing could unexpectedly stop working, but it was totally fine to claim you were such assholes that you would schedule maintenance on the store’s only escalator at the absolute busiest time of the day, lol
