It's funny: Both Bandcamp and Patreon had the easiest and most straightforwardly long-term profitable business models imaginable: Sit between indie creatives and their fans, provide some basic services for mediation (comment sections, media posts, semi-global payment) and take enough of a cut of any payments to cover the costs and then some.
But because that business model wouldn't scale forever, they are instead being gutted, because ever _increasing_ growth is the only model capital acceptsALT

Investors remain undeterred, “We’ll find the infinite profit growth hack if we have to drain the life of everyone on earth to do it.”

Are there any alternatives to Patreon and Bandcamp (and really any other services anyone could need for anything– I’d like to know about whatever exists!) that have not “gone public” and sold themselves out to shareholders?

Because I think that’s the main thing that drives the attempt at infinite growth, right?

Because the company tries to satisfy its shareholders, and they will only keep investing if their investment continually keeps gaining value, because that’s like, the point of investing… so the company can only keep the shareholders by increasing profits until it’s literally not mathematically possible anymore

but like OP said, it is possible for a company to NOT do this and just be sustainably profitable indefinitely. they just have to choose not to be publicly traded.

anyone have a good list of businesses that haven’t done this?

preferably ones that do something like Patreon, or Bandcamp, or Etsy, or others that help the really small businesses do their thing?

because from my own attempts, they seem pretty damn hard to find.
