Thinking about Tron & what I would’ve done with a sequel. ‘Cause whatever Tron Legacy was just wasn’t it for me, chief. The visuals were pretty, Rinzler was a fun concept, and like… I enjoyed Michael Sheen’s performance as Castor? But that’s about it.
Anyway, my pitch for a proper Tron sequel would be less generic cyberpunk dystopia & more: Through the years, Alan did his best to update the Tron program in a desperate attempt to keep up with time and the rapid advancement of technology. However, in doing so, Tron’s data was corrupted. So, now faced with a renegade security program–a danger to the entire Grid itself–and potentially losing his friend… they have to go back into the computer one more time.
A digital adventure ensues, the corrupted Tron likely gets deleted, but… despite everything, Alan finds an old floppy disk with Tron’s backup data. A compromise. Alan turns on a shiny, new-generation computer. There’s a fuss of wizards and adapters, but he gets the stupid thing to boot a virtual machine and download the program. And there he is: Tron. A command line and some words. Hello, Alan.
