related to last reblog, people on tumblr/twitter seem to have this weird need to distance themselves from what they like. it’s a very cringe-culture focused, cooler-than-you mindset to be like “i obsess over this actor but don’t worry i know they’re mid”. like lsdknfd;vn fine, but that doesn’t magically put you above it all. you’re still fandom posting on tumblr dot com. similarly you don’t need to be like “i know this is terrible but…” about half the things you love.
yeahhh
I mean… I think it might be a good idea to limit how much we talk about anything being “objectively” low-quality or high-quality. As if “it’s good” even means much more, fundamentally, than “people like it” (or usually, in the case of the person saying “it’s good,” really more just “I like it”)
When we talk about “quality” of any art form we’re almost always talking about some form of aesthetic appreciation. About beauty. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
And that means it’s not actually in the thing that gets called “beautiful.” Beautiful things are not actually full of beauty. Beauty (or, aesthetic appreciation) is a response that people have to them.
so, if I like it, then it IS GOOD.
To me.
