My submission to @cindymorganzine for a tribute to the late great Cindy Morgan. Posting now, since I just realized I never made it public after the zine came out.

It comes from a few different inspirations:

For a while I’ve been playfully using “YoLo” to refer to the characters of Yori and Lora.

YOLO stands for “you only live once.” For a long time, I’ve had some thoughts about how that’s more compelling as a reason to cherish and protect life than a reason to be reckless with it.

But I think Yori and Lora both embody something near the ideal balance of the two interpretations: the perfect blend of adventure and care.

The passing of Cindy Morgan, whose brilliant acting brought both those characters to life, has deepened these thoughts for me.

It’s brought some focus onto the value of life, and the endeavor of giving it the proper respect and caution, while also making the most of it while it’s here.

Drawn with graphite and colored pencils on paper.

Pencil drawing. Head/shoulders images of 6 characters from Tron, with captions beneath them on ribbonlike banners. Central and largest are Yori the laser program, captioned YO, and Lora her programmer, captioned LO. Above them is Clu1, Flynn's hacker program, with the words YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE, THAT'S WHY YOUR LIFE IS SO PRECIOUS. Bottom center is Tron, security program and Yori's counterpart. To his left is Crom, compound interest program for the savings and loan company. To his right is Ram, actuarial program who took pride in helping plan for people's future needs. The banner below them extends between all 3: YOU'RE WORTH SAVING (Crom) PROTECT (Tron) YOUR FUTURE (Ram).ALT
