ever post a reply saying you don’t understand something, and someone comments like “…that’s the joke”

and you’re not sure whether you should bother to try explaining that, yes, you know it was a joke. you just didn’t get that it was the joke.

like. yes. yes, it was obvious that the thing i replied to wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. I just didn’t realize that this was the entirety of what I was supposed to find funny.

my “I don’t get it” wasn’t “I don’t know this is a joke.”

it was more like “…ok, this is missing something in order to be a complete joke. What am I missing”

but, sometimes there isn’t anything missing. sometimes people’s senses of humor just have different standards.

…and sometimes it just isn’t worth trying to explain that, to a person who, based on a single interaction, has already placed you firmly into the mental category of “people without a sense of humor.”
