what does it say about me
that when I see a clickbait headline like “airlines hate when you do this but they can’t stop you!”
it actively makes me very much not want to do whatever-it-is
because… why would i do something, knowing that a powerful corporation, which controls my ability to travel, and controls my whole life while i am in their plane, will hate it?
i mean. even if they can’t stop you, they will want to
and even if they can’t punish you specifically for it, they will want to
and they will gain that ability as soon as they possibly can. maybe tomorrow. maybe ten minutes from now.
and even if not, they will still find some way of showing you how much they hate it, believe me
so why in the world would i deliberately plan to do… this thing, whatever it is?
…I feel like it’s a part of the ideology that claims you should stick it to the man, whenever possible, if there is any chance you might get away with it (no matter how horrific the dangers of not getting away with it)
and claims that the answer to someone expressing the fear “a powerful corporation might try to destroy me!” is always “well don’t worry, because you’re in the right, and they shouldn’t be doing that”
the same ideology that hears the question “why would you post something like that online? what if an employer reads it?” and responds “employers should mind their own business”
as if the employers were somehow the ones expressing the fear
i guess what it says about me is that i want to survive, more than I want to fight losing battles for the way things should be
but I suppose if no one is reckless enough to fight those battles then they will always be losing battles
anyway.
if there is a chance of getting me into such a battle, it’s not gonna be a clickbait headline that does it.
a tumblr post, maybe.
Maybe.
