If you’re going through a tough time and someone offers consolation by saying “I’ll pray for you,” how would you feel about that?
I’m not okay with that– I’m not religious
It’s fine/don’t care– I’m not religious
I’d appreciate it– I’m not religious
I’m not religious, but my feelings would depend on what THEIR religion is
I’m not okay with that– I AM religious

It depends on whether they say they’ll be praying for something I clearly want (e.g. to get better if I’m sick) or something I clearly don’t want (e.g. to get “better” [straight] from being “sick” [queer])
If the former, I’ll feel weird, but I’ll accept that it’s their way of showing support
If the latter, I’ll observe that this is clearly not meant to express support or help me feel better in any way
And that it’s 100% just a flex to brag about how they think they’re morally better than me
And I might quote Matthew 5:15 at them (the part where Jesus says you should “keep your light under a bushel” and not actually announce when you’re praying just to show off)
But only if they’re especially obnoxious about it.
(I internalized the bushel thing really hard and so it takes a lot for me to make an ostentatious demonstration of how much better I am than someone else. Even if they deserve it.)
