ppl are rlly trying to defend being on your phone during a movie in the theater what is going on
using your phone in a movie theater is a symptom of long covid
the defense of being on your phone in a movie theater is who cares? by your own admission, you should be paying attention to the movie. so why do you care what other people are doing? you’re meant to be paying attention to the movie.
This is 100% true
but movie theaters are also disingenuous as hell, because right after that “don’t ruin the movie with your phone” announcement, when everyone has gotten situated all cozy and the movie is just about to begin
THAT is when they ALWAYS play the advertisement that goes
“mmm, yummy yummy refreshments!! wouldn’t it be absolutely great to get up now and push past all the other people in your row and go buy a snack? And then come back, and push in past everyone in your row again, and then spend the next several minutes distracting everyone with crinkly wrappers and crunching sounds?”
so in conclusion. movie theaters are always going to be the absolute shittiest place to watch a movie no matter what people do in them. Why do they still exist. I do not know
IDK if this is a hot take or not, but I genuinely think we should bring back the popularity of drive-in theaters. There was one in Midland, TX, when I was in high school (It’s probably still around because it was quite popular and I don’t care about doxxing because neither I nor any of my family lives there any more) and it was honestly one of the coolest things in town. We’d bring our lawn chairs, a radio, popcorn, and dollartree candy with us. You get all the comforts you care to bring with you, no strangers right on top of you, and the folks that are taking a trip to the concession stand won’t be bothering you or blocking your view of the screen.
And it was always a double feature for like $20, so very well priced.
…IDK I miss the drive in, I wish they were more popular and not a relic of the past.
YES. This.
I mean…. I suppose some places the weather would be a problem. Where I used to live in California, and I guess some parts of Texas, you can reasonably expect clear weather almost any time, and a dry heat in summer that cools down after dark. So in those places a drive-in theater would be great. But Minnesota, for example, in summer there’s oppressive humid heat that doesn’t get cooler after dark, and there could at any moment suddenly be enough rain you can’t see the screen. Or snow, of course, in winter, when it isn’t too cold to snow (which is also a thing.)
