Bit thoughts

why do I keep putting such detailed worldbuilding into the most unserious fic

…I just wrote what I think is my most coherent headcanon so far about how the Bits function in TRON

… and it’s part of a privately shared pr0n story so over-the-top smutty that I’m not even putting it on ao3

What even am I

anyway i guess here is the good bit without the naughty bits

Bits are such versatile little assistant subroutines. The interface, the part you see, is the only part that’s literally a binary bit, and it’s how you communicate with the entity.

Which, itself, is a sort of… echo of one’s own intellect. Each Bit has all the mental capacity of its associated Program, plus a slightly removed viewpoint… another set of eyes, essentially, to double-check calculations.

Can we merge with this memory? Does this color look good on my hair? A Bit can be counted on to give a viewpoint that’s in line with your own, but just a little more objective.

It’s like an extra backup of oneself– which is why it never needs more than one bit of data to communicate an answer. It’s already so much on its Program’s wavelength; there’s no risk of misunderstanding.
