On remembering that death sequence, does anyone remember that (I believe written?) interview Dan did where he remarked on the reaction Ram’s passing caused in the audience (laughter) via saying that it was not so much due to anything “gay” but more because it implied “computer romance”?

Like, I cannot imagine being in a theatre in the 80s, hearing people snicker when two male characters held hands, and being charitable enough to think “oh, it must be because one isn’t human”. That’s a whole other level of optimism.

I wish I knew where that interview was from. It’s been over a decade since I’ve seen it, but it feels like something someone still into the fandom probably has in their back pocket.

wow. …yeah, Dan Shor is awesome, but like pretty much all actors and everyone else interviewed about making movies, he seems to at least sometimes have… wildly out-of-touch takes.

and

I’ve said this before, but…

As a fan who’s in this waaay too deep, to the point of reading early script drafts of the Tron/Yori deleted scene

….the idea of it being “computer romance”

…actually makes the gay stuff (touching hands, and then dissolving into an energy cloud) more explicitly erotic

…in case anyone was still unaware of the logic behind my “he didn’t die, it was just a little deresolution” theory

(reason 1000101 why I want to be a program. the ability to feel so much pleasure you clip through the floor)

(fun fact, the preview of this link is also what set off a specific pattern recognition that inspired me to make the Archive.Org Recognizer into my header picture, lol)
