I know I reblogged the same gif set earlier with commentary but I can I just take a moment to say how incredibly DORKY they both are in this? I mean Alan’s little grin as he’s like “teehee we are using super secret nicknames that we don’t even know what they mean heeheeheehee” and he is like a GROWN MAN COME ON ALAN this isn’t your little clubhouse or anything. And then Roy complaining that Flynn didn’t give him the “cool” nickname you guys are eight okay.
I wish they knew.

That line about the “cool nickname” was the ONE thing in the way of me constructing my “actually Roy and Alan secretly knew everything” headcanon
I had come up with ways around EVERYTHING else in the plot that suggested otherwise, but not why Roy would say THAT, at that moment
And then I realized, that line needs a plothole-spackle explanation ANYWAY, even with standard interpretation
(Because 1. why would Roy not know why Flynn called them those names, does he not know what their own programs were called? And 2. Ram is the clearly cooler name)
So I bit the bullet and did my spackling. And the fic happened
