A handshake meme, with a picture of Spider-Man (Peter Parker) on one of the hands, and Parker from Leverage on the other. Both pictures are labeled "Parker." On the handclasp itself are two pictures of the same characters both climbing on top of buildings, labeled "Parkour."ALT

Omg @laser-tripwires please tell me more I LOVE ridiculous chains of logic

AHEM

so between 2002 and 2004, wildstorm (a DC comics imprint, got folded into vertigo publishing a few years ago) released a little sci-fi spy comic series called Global Frequency. not technically part of main DC canon but… not not that either.

now in 2005 a television series was designed from the show, with Warran Ellis (the principal comics creator behind the series) bringing on a man named John Rogers as the main creative lead - and you may see where this is going.

a pilot was casted, budgeted and produced, but unfortunately Warner Bros (who initally comissioned the show) didn’t pick it up. there’s a whole drama about the unaired pilot then later being leaked in full leading to the project being killed in it’s entirety, but what matters here is that everyone involved mourned the loss of the project and moved on to other things.

sometime in 2007, John Rogers was chatting with his mate Chris Howney and broke the idea for a robin-hood esque heist show. luckily, their mutual friend Dean Devlin had just got a crime show comission from TNT with no clue what to do with it. match made in heaven.

and thus became Leverage! fun fact, it’s well known the role of Eliot was written for Christian Kane, but lesser known is the fact that Rogers knew Kane due to Kane nearly being cast in Global Frequency.

thing is, though, Rogers is now sitting with a writers room that loves to have fun with making references, and creating a show that exists in a very similar world to GF. and he has fun with it. here’s some quotes from his blog:

leverage three days of the hunter job post (x)

leverage the experimental job post (x)
(the Zero Protocols being a thing from Global Frequency)

librarians fables of doom post (x)

so… is Leverage canon to DC comics? no. absolutely not. not even close. arguably even Global Frequency isn’t. but, if you really wanted to argue it… connections exist.

i just wanna see Eliot punch Batman.

I love all this so very much
