I mean. All those of us in the general population who know we make good art but have never been able to live on it? …we all knew that already from the start.
But i imagine if you were at the level of success where Despicable Me was commissioning songs from you. Then i guess the realization would be quite a letdown
Write 9 songs about being happy, no one wants them. write a bitter song about how you feel about that? Yeah that’s the song they want, and they’re gonna market it as if it’s about being happy

…listened to it, and, i guess i recognized it? but there were no particular feelings attached. felt like a song that was just background music, no emotion
the lyrics were never comprehensible to me when i heard it on the radio before…. but yeah reading them while thinking about how empty and monotone the tune sounds…
