Elves realized ages ago that, due to the lifespan differences between them, humans will eventually forget the reasoning for various treaties and break them. So it’s understandably shocking to the elves when they discover some long-forgotten treaties in their own records that humans never broke.
“Well, it has the same cause, I guess. Our shorter lifespans and tendency to forget.”
“But we forgot, too, and we have been breaking the treaty!”
“The treaty about not scheduling nude seven-participant drunk chess-tournaments in each other’s territory during the months of December to February?”
“That one. Yes. And again, we apologize, but the treaty was made so very long ago–”
“Long enough ago for you to forget it was a treaty.”
“Indeed. But how did you–”
“Long enough ago for us to forget why anyone would even do that in the first place.”
