i just think it says a lot about the person. my favorite is a bear named theodore

a bear named Theodore. wow

That one has layers. As Theodore is the most common name to be shortened to Teddy, this is on the surface perhaps the most generic stuffed animal of them all. And yet, to address mr. Bear by his full first name is to place upon this generic plushie a veneer of distinction and dignity which he is not often permitted.

it harkens back perhaps even to the birth name of Winnie the Pooh, whom A. A. Milne seems to have originally christened Edward Bear (Edward also being a name that sometimes receives the nickname Teddy, and thus also an oblique reference to the quintessential Teddy Bear that is the platonic ideal of stuffyhood)

and yet the story Milne wrote and published was of what happened to the so-christened bear after it was thrown to the chaotic hands of his son Christopher Robin– who, in the fashion typical to children, gave it a new name which flouted all naming conventions for stuffed animals and indeed even the naming conventions for gender (one of the first dialogues in the first Pooh book took place between father and son on the topic of why a supposedly male bear was given the usually feminine name Winnie, and the child’s answer only opened more questions than it answered)

but the Theodore of OP’s heart has undergone no such transformation. its formalized upgrade from the most run-of-the-mill plush bear name remains intact on that same precarious platform between average and truly esoteric.

mine is a green axolotl named Janeway Junior.
