so here is one more of my Asterisks of Thought
(I think in asterisks. every thought is connected to several others and the focus jumps back and forth among them all kinda chaotically, it’s a whole thing and probly related to how I’m a Wildcard with a Pattern Recognizer living in my head)
anywayyyy
I was looking for the part in the end credits of TRON 1982 where Journey’s music is credited. And I found it, and
and then got distracted looking up “1990’s theme”
and apparently it’s in the beginning, in the arcade before the lightcycle battle? Not actually in the lightcycle battle, that doesn’t seem to have music, although there’s an alternate “deleted” version of the scene that has Wendy Carlos music instead
and then I got sidetracked wondering if I should include that in my spliced version of Tron With The Deleted Scenes Included, because more Wendy Carlos music has got to be a good thing right?
and then my brain jumped back to the title of the Journey music and wondered about it being called “1990’s theme” ….but I guess that was probably a name that sounded fittingly futuristic in 1982
And then I was like… omg this kinda makes something in my Alan/Roy fic make sense? like, I wrote about them using references to decades as coded messages.. and one was “1990s”…
and even when I wrote that, I remember thinking it was kinda weird they would reference the 90’s while they were in the 80’s, and I never totally made it clear whether they actually used it in the 90’s (when I don’t think they would have been needing coded messages so much?) or whether they used at least one “future” decade as part of their code in the 80’s. (it wasn’t all that important to the story so I didn’t invent the lore in that much detail)
But since the Tron movie actually has a precedent for referencing the 90’s while in the 80’s, I feel like that somehow fits. Maybe not on the level of actually making any sense in-universe (of either the movie or my fic) but …it FEELS like it fits, okay
And THEN
on the Tron wiki for the Journey music
I saw this….
“Supertramp.” Supertramp pulled out. My dirty mind was delighted.
(the band seems to have chosen the word “tramp” in the sense meaning “hobo” and not the sense meaning “slut,” but my dirty mind was still delighted okay)
AND so was my Pattern Recognizer
…because this also tied into the reason I was looking up that frame of the credits in the first place:
…I think Flynn probably had this on his bedroom door at some point.
