So I love the idea that for programs on Flynn’s Grid, yelling out “KEVIN!” is one of their ways of taking the User’s name in vain.
Partly because it’s such a ridiculous name for a god, and therefore fitting for Kevin Flynn’s… overall ridiculousness.
Partly because, post-Legacy, there are two possible Flynns that one could be referring to, and some programs want to be extra-specific to make clear which one they’re talking about.
(As to why they’d be swearing by the dead one… maybe they consider that less profane; maybe they liked the old god better; maybe he’s actually still alive after reintegration in some other form; pick your favorite explanation)
But then there’s also the fact that, as a rhyme for “heaven,” that name fits rather beautifully into various mild oaths in the User world:
—
“Oh, for Kevin’s sake.”
“Good Kevins, what’s that?”
“Oh, you look Kevinly!”
—
Then again… if we have program oaths that call out Kevin by name… what of Sam?
—
“That was a Sam good game!”
“Oh, Sam it, I’m gonna be late.”
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a Sam.”
…
One final thought. If Sam visits the Grid via a portal that’s kept in an elevated location like a mountaintop…
this would be a nicely symbolic tie-in to the ancient Greek roots of the Tron universe, in the form of his very own Mount Olympus…
…and also a brand new meaning for
“What in the Sam Hill?”
