my solution to copyright is that everything unconditionally becomes public domain with the creator’s death. anything held by a group will lose their rights with the death of its leader; whether it be a CEO for corporations or a president for state media. this will solve no problems but will lead to extremely funny assassinations

You can’t “mutilate” a story by writing more stories about it, what does that even mean.
It’s actually very normal to not be able to make money for your family any more after you die. Bricklayers, for example, die without leaving IP for their families to passively make money on. This is the default way to die. The idea that your dependents should be able to keep passively making income on something you created many years after you die is the weird one here.
also, families not owning copyright won’t stop them from continuing to sell and profit from any books by that author that are still in print
it just means they are not the only people in the world legally allowed to do that
…plus. copyright or no copyright, “being an author who makes enough money for yourself to live on, let alone your descendants” is such a small percentage of even professionally-published authors that I almost wanna laugh at the example
