I think I’ve said this before, but:

- The Ninja Turtles are hilarious because the connection between ninjutsu and turtles seems to come out of nowhere

- but there is also probably something to be said for martial-arts animals with more comprehensible connections

-such as, for example

1-the species name sounds similar to the name of the martial art

2-the animal is native to a region where the martial art is practiced

3-based on anatomy and biology, the animal seems like it could be good at the martial art

For passing #1 and #2 while hilariously failing #3, may I suggest the Capoeira Capybara

I was under the impression that the ninja turtles were poking fun at Alan Moore’s Daredevil - old trainer Master Splinter vs Stick, The Foot clan vs The Hand, and I think there was a page in TMNT showing the toxic waste also blinding a young boy.

I would read the Capoeira Capybara though!

Yeah, I definitely see the Foot/Hand and Splinter/Stick connections. Just wasn’t quite sure how them being turtles would factor into all that.

Then again… I guess a turtle’s primary strategy, for both defense and offense, is hiding. Which is pretty Ninja when you think about it.
