genuinely baffles me?

like. What is the question supposed to be?

Whether it accomplishes anything tangible and useful, more than counting rice? Well of course not… but neither would reading a book or watching a movie or playing a game

Whether it makes you feel any different? Obviously yes. If it didn’t provide any more emotional reward than counting rice, you’d be no more likely to do it than counting rice. Of course it does.

Sure, it probably doesn’t make you feel as good as other activities might. But the analogy isn’t even trying to compare it to other activities

It feels like trying to talk yourself out of eating junk food by asking yourself whether it’s different from eating a tray of ice cubes. What is this comparison supposed to achieve
