psychotic-gerard:

me: i don’t want to see jellyfish so i will blacklist the tag #jellyfish

people with no common sense: je11yf1sh, je11¥fi5h, j*llyf*sh, je//ÿf!sh, j3ï||yf¡sh, gel lee fisk

result: cannot account for the sheer amount of possible ways to alter the word jellyfish

conclusion: i have to see jellyfish now.

Once again, tumblr is not tiktok, tag properly.

This. Please. Whether I’m avoiding spoilers for a show or people promoting eating disorders, if I block a tag it means I don’t want to see it. Spell your fucking tags properly.

As I’ve said before… it would be great if everyone did this.

sadly, it’s not going to happen until there stop being the kind of haters who actively search the tags, looking for people to harass and threaten and dox, jusr for talking about a thing they don’t like.

Not that the weirdly spelled tags actually do much to protect against this.

They’re not much better in that regard than leaving something totally untagged.

the ONLY way they help at all is if somehow all the people with a valid reason to either search or avoid the tag all KNOW the “secret” spelling, and the predatory haters don’t.

Which isn’t a status that’s ever gonna exist completely or for long, even if it ever momentarily gets close.

…one of those problems that’ll never totally have a solution.

There have always been attempts at secret codes to signal things to like-minded people while avoiding persecution by others. They’ve never worked entirely or for long.

As long as there’s hatred, some of our language is always going to be in an arms race.
