That quote about abusive men going “berserk” or faking it, from the book “Why Does He Do That,” is going around a lot again, and it has always rubbed me the wrong way– for basically the same reasons described here

there’s a wobbly line between recognizing deliberate manipulation in abusers, and wrongly accusing people with uncontrolled behavioral disorders of deliberate manipulation

and those particular quotes (from a book that does have some good points, although it also seems to make very gender-essentialist claims about who can and can’t be abused) ….always make that borderline wobble for me VERY uncomfortably
