Sometimes I feel a little bit alienated from…. fandoms in general

around the topic of the pedestal that Canon gets put on

I mean. I personally am pretty much always more excited about a good new fanfic than any new canon in the franchise, movie or show or videogame

but there, at least, I guess I can wrap my head around the viewpoint

(that a new canon movie or show or game could be seen as more impressive than a fanfic, just because it’s a different medium… a more fancy and expensive one, which only the owners of the copyright have enough money and manpower to make)

But then there’s the mindset of wanting official merchandise

like, if you want a little plastic representation of a Tron character… have you seen some of the adorable keychains and stuff fans have made??

like. in a world that contains those… just what sort of wires get crossed in a brain to make someone want an official Tron funko pop

(… probably the same wires that make people want mined gemstones instead of lab created ones… i guess)
